TRIBUTE TO BEN TUCKER

"TRIBUTE TO BEN TUCKER"

Ben Tucker was a very kind and talented man who was a Savannah jewel.  He was a great musician.  His life was taken too soon.  This is his funeral procession New Orleans style with many of his friends playing for his celebration of life.  This is another photo that my childhood friend and neighbor Donald Teuton took.  He posted it on facebook and I asked him if he minded me painting it.  He agreed and it will be in the Telfair Show this weekend.

Come by my booth and see me.  I am across from the entrance to the Jepson.

YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL

"YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL"

My husband Olin and I spent our 35th anniversary at The Old Harbor Inn on Riverstreet.  I highly recommend it.  The next day we played tourist and I took this photo of James who is from Richmond Virginia.  He is a fixture in Wright Square.  He sang us an anniversary serinade and made me a flower.  He had such a kind soul.  This is one of my paintings at the Telfair Show.  It is 9x12.  Contact me if you are interested it purchasing it.

IF IT ONLY HAD WINGS

"IF IT ONLY HAD WINGS"

When I was showing at the Landings Art Association show a few weeks ago I met a lovely couple who liked one of my palm paintings of the Tybee Trail Path.  He knew it well.  He and his wife also liked to take photos and he showed me this photo on his phone he had taken.  I loved the perspective and asked if I could use it for a painting.  He agreed and sent the image to my phone.  I usually work from my own photographs but I love the way this one turned out.  The image above shows the photo and the painting.  It is my last painting to finish for the Telfair Show this weekend.

The owner of the photo will have first dibs but if you are interested contact me.  It is a 9x12 and sells for $275.  It will be the one with the wet paint sign in the show.

Red De Light

RED DE LIGHT
8" x 10"

A day on wassaw.  This summer was great.  The weather was not as hot as usual.  This photo was taken on Wassaw Island which is one of the barrier islands off Savannah.  We visit it often as it is a private beach only accessible by boat.

TRAIL OF PALMS

TRAIL OF PALMS I  - SOLD

TRAIL OF PALMS II - SOLD
TRAIL OF PALMS III

I have been working on paintings for several shows which have kept  me very busy.  I have been taking time out to paint these very quick paintings of palms.  These photos were taken on the Tybee Trolly Trail.  It is the old rail path of the train which traveled from Savannah downtown to Tybee Island.  It is lined on both sides with marsh and the back river.   A joy to paint.

RADISHES ARE A SALAD'S BEST FRIEND

"RADISHES ARE A SALAD'S BEST FRIEND"

I went to Jacksonville to visit my BFF (bestfineartfriend) Kaytee Esser.  We went to the Riverside Art Market where I photographed these radishes.  We painted them that night after Greg her husband fixed us a fabulous steak dinner.  We always have fun together.  You can view the process of the painting in the slide show below.

WILL YOU?

Well, how could you refuse?

My beginning class painted this subject.  They were a very talented class.  This was my demo.  Everyone got to paint their own words on the note.

PATRIOTIC GARDEN - HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

PATRIOTIC GARDEN

We just returned from Annapolis and I had to paint this for the 4th.  The homes and gardens were all decorated with flags. It was such a patriotic town.  Perhaps it was for the 4th of July but I got the feeling that the flags are always there.

I will post more about the fabulous trip later.

HOW IT'S PAINTED

TUTEN'S FISH CAMP PAINTING

FROM PHOTO TO FINISH - THE CREATIVE PROCESS

At times I photograph my paintings during the process to share with my students.  I thought it might be fun for my friends to see how I painted a painting too.  So I just learned how to make my first slide show and get it on my blog!  Great fun.  Let me know if you like this.

On Memorial Day we went by motor boat to Isle of Hope.  This Fishing Camp has been there as long as Olin can remember and he grew up on the Island.  It is always a nice surprise to see as you round the corner of the creek.

IN THE MARKET FOR SUNFLOWERS?

IN THE  MARKET FOR SUNFLOWERS?

WHO WOULDN'T LOVE PAINTING THESE HAPPY FLOWERS!

ART IN THE PARK - SUCCESSFUL ENDEAVOR

WHAT FUN!

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about doing an outdoor show.  I have bad memories of selling watercolors in outdoor shows where the weather was treacherous and my art got ruined.  This show changed my faith in exhibiting outdoors.  It was a lovely group of people.  I sold 9 paintings which always makes it worthwhile.  They had an awesome antique car and motorcycle show at the same venue.  Look for me next year in the Landing Art Association Art in the Park show.

REESE SAYS - ENOUGH ABOUT PAINTING

DON'T EXCLUDE ME IN THE CONVERSATION!

REALLY, CAN'T WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING BESIDES ART!
I KNOW IT'S BEEN A COLD SPRING BUT IT'S TIME TO GO SWIM IN THE LAKE AND PLAY BALL

SADIE AND I LOVE TO SWIM TOGETHER
Reese thinks he can be on my blog now that I told him that Dreama Tolle Perry has Eddie Pierre on her blog all the time.  Even though Eddie has a tail I won't hold it against Reese. Now Reese is nagging me all the time about getting his portrait done.

A PILE OF PELICANS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RHONDA

This painting was purchased by Rhonda's husband Terry (my first cousin) for her birthday.

The inspiration

The story

Olin and I were in the motor boat passing under the Turner's Creek bridge and there were all these pelicans lined up on the bridge pilings.  Of course I made Olin ride by about 20 times to take hundreds of photos just for good measure.  I got this from my dad.  Each time we rode by their heads followed us.  It was such a site.  I painted the painting from several of the photos.  I am very proud to have the painting in their home.

YAHOO! THERE'S NOTHING THAT SELLS ART BETTER THAN A RIBBON

"Classic Cat" won 2nd place and was purchased by a great sailing couple

That's a double bullet in my book.

What a great event and opportunity.  The Landings Art Association's 26th Annual Spring Show hosted some of the finest art displayed in Savannah and had over 500 attendees.  I have met so many lovely people and artist through this association I feel truly blessed.  Many artist pursue their art gifts late in life when they have earned the time to express themselves.  We are fortunate to have such a great talented association in Savannah.

This is what the judge wrote about the painting:

"This is a nice little jewel of a painting.  I found it's strength to be in the strong diagonal design created by the bow of the boat coming into the painting from the right hand side of the image.  The use of the blue in the painting created harmony drawing the eye from the forground to the background and back again.  I just wanted to be on the water sailing as I viewed this image!"

"Classic Cat"

Each year the Savannah Yacht Club hosts the "Classic Boat Rally" a regatta that starts in Savannah and travels to Hilton Head and Beaufort.  I went out in the motor boat and took photos of these very timeless boats.

If show only lasts one night so if it does not sell in the show I will list it on the web.  Keep looking! and wish me luck!

PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP WITH ROBERT ISLEY

Last week I had the unique opportunity to take a plein air workshop from Robert Isley.  We painted for two days at Skidaway Island.  It was such a pleasure to take from such a humble kind and so very talented artist.  I have admired his work for years.  This was offered through the Landings Art Association.  They are a very talented group of artists and have so much to offer.  I encourage any artist to join this group.  You can view their website here:

You can view Robert Isley's work here

Now if it would just quit raining here I could go out and paint!

DEEP SOUTH REGATTA

Well this is another act of love and labor.  Last weekend we went out on our sailboat and watched the Deep South Regatta. Found out it was much smoother to photograph from the sailboat than the motorboat. Each year for 57 years the International Lightning Class has held the Deep South Regatta at the Savannah Yacht Club.  It is the first of three races in the Southern Circuit.  My father in law helped start this regatta.  This is the boat my husband and his family grew up sailing.  My husband competed in the World's twice in this boat.  Many fond friends and memories.  Each year I photograph these great boats and the colorful show they put on.  I must have thousands of photos by now but I still can't resist taking them and painting them. You will see many paintings of mine with these boats.  It is rumor that this was their last trip to Savannah but I hope not.
We will surely miss them.

LIGHTNING FLASHES

This is one of Lightning paintings

LEEWARD MARK
This painting is mixed media.  It has a watercolor base with acrylic and painted on a special board so that it does not have to be under glass.  It is varnished.

We have discovered that although Reese is a great sport about boating, he will never be a hunting dog.  He heard the cannon fire from the race committee boat to start the races and he stayed below in the cabin most of the day. At this point he is venturing out from his hole.

ITS Z-BREEZE

This painting was commissioned by me this Christmas for some very dear friends Claire and Andrew Zeigler.  Their children gave it to them.  We traveled the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association  Sailing Circuit together for years with our children.  This is their boat sailing in front of the Savannah Yacht Club.
