PLEIN AIR PAINTING
I have been painting outdoors since I was 10 years old. My art teacher Mrs. Sydney W. Bumann took us to Thunderbolt, Bonaventure Cemetery, downtown Savannah, and Forsyth park regularly in her pink cadillac. I later painted with Sally Bostwick at Tybee Island.
We didn't know to call it plein air which is french for painting outdoors. I enjoy painting outdoors and always learn from it. I had the pleasure of taking a plein air workshop with West Fraser. He currently lives in Charleston, SC but went to school in Savannah and grew up on Hilton Head Island where my husband spent his summers before the island was developed. Both the McIntosh's and Fraser families owned and developed the island.
The first location we painted was Wormsloe Plantation. Craig Barrow whose family owns the plantation and resides there invited us to paint from his front lawn. It was an awesome view.

The next day we painted on Bluff Drive in Isle of Hope. One of the loveliest drives in Savannah. Moss just drips from the big oaks that line the inter-coastal waterfront winding road.

I have been painting in my studio much of the week and have some great little studies to share. I will post them over the next few days. I finally got my computers networked and up and running so I can upload my work.
