TASTEE LEE

OMG Have you ever tasted a Tastee Lee.  Well it's kinda like when my daddy grew the "Better Boy" tomatoes in his garden.  Nothing like it.  I acutally get these at Publix and they are as bright red inside as out.  These are the subjects you paint about and then eat about.  Two of my students painted these in my class this week and I they did so well that I had to have my chance at them.

GERANIMO

It

This geranium has bloomed all winter long.  I wanted to move it to my front porch for some christmas red color but I was afraid it would not like it's new spot.  It's the greatest color spot in my back yard now and I enjoy it daily.  Hope you enjoy this study of it.

This painting was from a photo taken on one of our first voyages on the "Peconic Tonic".  I always love this viewpoint looking through the rigging.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

I have been painting outdoors since I was 10 years old.  My art teacher Mrs. Sydney W. Bumann took us to Thunderbolt, Bonaventure Cemetery, downtown Savannah, and Forsyth park regularly in her pink cadillac. I later painted with Sally Bostwick at Tybee Island.

We didn't know to call it plein air which is french for painting outdoors.  I enjoy painting outdoors and always learn from it.  I had the pleasure of taking a plein air workshop with West Fraser.  He currently lives in Charleston, SC but went to school in Savannah and grew up on Hilton Head Island where my husband spent his summers before the island was developed.  Both the McIntosh's and Fraser families owned and developed the island.

The first location we painted was Wormsloe Plantation.  Craig Barrow whose family owns the plantation and resides there invited us to paint from his front lawn. It was an awesome view.

CRAIG'S VIEW

The next day we painted on Bluff Drive in Isle of Hope. One of the loveliest drives in Savannah.  Moss just drips from the big oaks that line the inter-coastal waterfront winding road.

NO BLUFFING

I have been painting in my studio much of the week and have some great little studies to share.  I will post them over the next few days.  I finally got my computers networked and up and running so I can upload my work.

EMERALD POINT VIEW

One of my students lives on a great island called Emerald Point which is the setting for this plein air marsh study.   We even saw a black mink that day!

The Peconic Tonic

THE PECONIC TONIC

This is me and my husband Olin and our new toy.  I have to put this on my art blog because it will be the subject or vehicle for creating my art.  It is a 19' Mariner.  It arrived from Maine  a day after Christmas in fabulous shape for a 20 year boat.  Thanks to Stuart Marine who really went out of their way to make it shine!  It has a unique history.  It was originally built for the Actor Cliff Robertson who starred in PT109 and Spider-Man (Uncle Ben).  The name Peconic Tonic is for Peconic Bay near the Hamptons where he lived.  Olin and I had an O'Day Mariner like this in the 80's and loved it.

Our dog Reese loves the boat

I think he is a little too relaxed

Hans and Reese just chillin

Painting about it and more!

 LATE BLOOMER

This week has been quite exciting.  I painted four days in a row last week in spite of the many technical challenges I have had setting up my new mac server, starting my blog, Daily Paintworks site and learning to use a mac and windows 8.  I will post more paintings this week.  This is my test painting to see if I can do an auction.  This  Christmas cactus reminds me of my grandmother who always had one.  You really can't kill them.  Lucky for them they don't care if you forget to water them.  Mine never blooms at Christmas though.  Lucky me!  it gave me a great subject to paint.

Teaching my class tomorrow and have some exciting paintings in mind inspired from our first outing on our new (used) sailboat.  You will be seeing a lot about the "Peconic Tonic".

Stepping Out

My new year's resolution is to "Just Paint About It"!  As I was searching for inspiration I found  DailyPaintworks   I have envied artist who paint daily.  I am always struggling to put my passion and painting first.  Working at home and being attention challenged has given me many excuses to put painting off.  There is ALWAYS something else I can find that needs to be done.

The hardest thing about getting started is "getting started".  To end all this procrastination I have a goal of painting 5 new paintings a week.  It's a challenging start for me but I am excited about doing it.

My other goal is to improve my marketing of my work.  I have joined Dailypaintworks.com and will start incorporating the social network audience that I have neglected to join because "I don't have enough time!"

I'm not much of a writer but I have been painting for over 40 years and I have art to share.  This blog will hopefully keep me honest and document my growth as an artist.  I always felt the blogs were sort of egotistical but what I hope to get out of my blog is to communicate with other artists and to inspire me to live up to my goals since I have divulged my weaknesses to the world.

I have actually painted 4 paintings this week and will post them as soon as I get my new mac computer up and running.  I am in a huge learning curve with the new mac operating system but it is so exciting.  I will continue to build my blog and new dailypaintworks site - that is when i am not at the easel!!!

later...time to head to the studio

wow i actually inserted my first painting image!
